Pureflow Bio library
Keeping water clean, without the guesswork
We build filters and water treatment equipment in India. This library holds the things we end up explaining to customers again and again: how to size a system, what usually goes wrong, and what to check before you spend money.
How fast should water move through your filter?
Put in your pond or tank volume and see the flow you should plan for. Includes the reasoning, so you can judge the number rather than just trust it.

Short answers
Questions we get a lot
How fast should the water go round?
For a koi pond, once every hour or two is the usual target. Fish farms and recirculating systems run faster than that. The turnover article has a calculator if you want an actual number.
Which mesh should I pick for a drum filter?
Somewhere between 40 and 100 microns covers most ponds and farms. Going finer gives you clearer water but you will pay for it in backwash cycles.
How long before a new biofilter works?
Plan on about a month and a half, a bit less in warm water. Keep testing ammonia and nitrite and do not stock fully until both stay at zero.
When does a UV lamp need replacing?
Roughly once a year if it runs all day. A lamp can still look bright long after it has stopped doing its job.
Still stuck?
