Static screen or drum filter: which should I choose?
A static screen suits low flows, pre-screening and discharge water, where an occasional manual clean is fine. A drum filter cleans itself automatically, so it is the better choice in a RAS or busy koi pond where solids arrive constantly.
How often does a static screen need cleaning?
It depends entirely on the solids load. A lightly loaded screen may need a brush-down every few days, while a heavily loaded one needs daily attention. If you find yourself cleaning constantly, a drum filter will save time.
