Check water distribution and installation height
Confirm available pump head, inlet distribution, tray arrangement, discharge route and overflow provision. Review splash, noise, drainage and maintenance access for the actual site.
Agree the media and maturation basis
State media type, quantity and effective design area, along with feed load, temperature, oxygen and water chemistry. Plan biological maturation and routine inspection without assuming a universal fish-stock rating.

A bakki shower sheds water over open trays. In enclosed rooms, allow for ventilation to deal with humidity and spray. Where noise matters, the falling water is audible, and a submerged biofilter such as an MBBR may suit better. Outdoors, protect the unit from wind drift. What is a Bakki shower?
It is a stack of open trays filled with biological media, mounted above the pond. Water is pumped to the top and showers down through the trays back into the pond. It's a biological filter and an aerator at the same time.
Why are Bakki showers popular with koi keepers?
They give excellent ammonia removal in a small footprint and saturate the water with oxygen as it falls. Many keepers also say their koi show better colour and skin, which is widely put down to the high oxygen and stable water.
Does a Bakki shower need a mechanical filter in front?
Yes. Put a drum filter or other mechanical filter first. If solids reach the media they clog it and reduce performance.
Are Bakki showers noisy?
There is a steady sound of falling water, similar to a waterfall. Many people like it; if it bothers you, side panels and careful positioning reduce splash and noise.
What media goes in a Bakki shower?
Porous ceramic or similar media with a large surface area for bacteria. Ask us about media and quantity for your tray size when you enquire.
