What are RAS Skid Filtration Systems?

A RAS skid filtration system combines selected water-treatment equipment and connecting pipework on a coordinated assembly for a recirculating aquaculture system.

A skid cannot be selected from tank volume alone; biological loading, pump head and the required treatment stages must also be defined.

RAS Skid Filtration Systems applications

Fish farms and hatcheries

Best for coordinating treatment around species, life stage and daily feed.

Public aquariums and oceanariums

Best for exhibit-specific life support with defined access and redundancy.

Research and pilot RAS

Best for modular layouts with a documented experimental operating envelope.

How RAS Skid Filtration Systems work

Step 1

Collect and screen the water

Bring the agreed filter flow through the mechanical stage before downstream treatment.

Step 2

Treat dissolved and fine wastes

Use the selected biofilter and any specified protein skimmer, UV or ozone stage.

Step 3

Return and monitor

Pump treated water back through the agreed return route and monitor the operating conditions.

RAS Skid Filtration Systems features and benefits

Coordinated base frame

Keeps the selected equipment and pipe connections in one planned arrangement.

Defined treatment train

Lets each stage be selected for its own hydraulic and treatment duty.

Accessible controls

Places the agreed monitoring and isolation points within the service layout.

Project-specific assembly

Adapts equipment selection to available space and utilities.

RAS Skid Filtration Systems models and specifications

Engineering & procurement

Define exactly what your RAS skid includes

A RAS filtration skid is a packaged assembly, not a universal treatment recipe. The process flow diagram, equipment schedule and responsibility boundaries should describe the same selected configuration.

  1. Production & feed basis
  2. Separate treatment duties
  3. Selected skid & interfaces
  4. Commissioning & operator handover

Equipment supply vs complete RAS delivery

A skid quotation should identify its own treatment duties, pumps, valves, instruments and frame. Culture tanks, civil work, oxygen supply, building services and the complete farm operating plan are separate interfaces unless expressly included.

Size around the production plan

Start with species, life stage, peak biomass and feed. Check solids removal, TAN conversion, oxygen demand, carbon dioxide removal and make-up water independently. A 100 m³/h recirculation branch does not by itself define fish production capacity.

RAS Skid Filtration Systems installation and maintenance

Installation and integration

Agree a process diagram, equipment schedule and responsibility boundary before manufacture. Provide a level base, lifting route, isolation valves, drainage and the specified electrical supply.

Routine maintenance

Service each supplied component to its own instructions. Record screen cleaning, media condition, pump checks and calibration of the installed instruments.

Warranty, dispatch and installation

One-year equipment warranty

Confirm coverage and operating requirements in the quotation.

Dispatch within 15 working days

Dispatch follows order confirmation. Transport and site delivery time are additional.

    RAS Skid Filtration Systems FAQs

What is a RAS filtration skid?

It is a complete recirculating filtration system built on one frame: typically a drum filter, biofilter, UV, pumps and pipework, ready to connect to your fish tanks. It is assembled and checked before it arrives, so your site work is minimal.

Who is a RAS skid suited to?

Hatcheries, nurseries, research facilities, quarantine units and smaller grow-out farms that want a proven, compact system without designing each part themselves. It is also a good way to start a RAS before scaling up.

What size skid do I need?

Skids are sized by the feed your fish eat each day, because that sets the waste load, together with the water volume and flow. Tell us your species, target production and tank volume and we'll specify the skid.

Can the skid be expanded later?

Yes. Many farms add more skids as they grow instead of building one huge system. This also gives you redundancy: if one unit needs service, the others keep running.

    What utilities does it need?

Power for the pumps, blower and UV, a drain for filter waste and space with access for service. We confirm the electrical load and footprint in your quotation.

Do you help with installation and commissioning?

Yes, where it is part of the agreed scope. We can guide connection, start-up and biofilter cycling so the system is stable before you stock fully.
