OZONE CONTACT skid
Ozone Contact Skid – Advanced Ozone Treatment for Aquaculture & Water Filtration
Pureflow Biofloc decided to design ozone contact chambers skid and ozone generators contact towers from scratch. Our equipment derived after spending over 3 years in R&D and field trials of ozone contact chambers. Traditionally it was considered that providing a standard pressurized chamber for the ozone to be infused in water was enough. Pureflow Biofloc has the field expertise from operating large ozone generators in saline and fresh water farm systems and understands that there are multiple details that need to be addressed in order to secure the brood-stock of the fish farm. Details in the design and safe operation of the device are unique on Pureflow Biofloc ozone contact chambers.
OFFER & USE OF OZONE CONTACT CHAMBERS IN AQUACULTURE
In saltwater Recirculating Aquaculture Systems (RAS), using a venturi device with a protein skimmer not only remains traditional but also proves highly effective. Moreover, since the venturi creates a vacuum that draws ozone gas into the water, the skimmer’s foam fractionation process—naturally more efficient in saltwater due to dissolved organic compounds—enhances gas-liquid transfer and removes waste effectively.
However, freshwater RAS facilities operate under different dynamics. Because protein fractionation is far less effective in freshwater, protein skimmers are rarely applied. Consequently, advanced infusion methods become necessary. Modern systems, therefore, incorporate a pressurized ozone contact vessel or an ozone contact tower.
In addition, this specialized vessel creates the right conditions for ozone infusion. Instead of relying only on a venturi, the system forces a pressurized mixture of ozone and water to mix thoroughly within the chamber. As a result, the gas-liquid contact time significantly increases, and disinfection efficiency improves.
Furthermore, this method ensures ozone not only disinfects the water but also breaks down organic waste more effectively. Ultimately, for most modern freshwater RAS farms, an ozone contact tower becomes a critical component to achieve and maintain superior water quality standards, support biosecurity, and enhance system sustainability.

Advantages of Using an Ozone Contact Skid
Because ozone is a powerful oxidizing agent, it can eliminate microorganisms more effectively than chlorine and other chemicals.
In addition, ozone breaks down organic matter, neutralizes odors, and increases water clarity without leaving harmful residues. Therefore, it is both eco-friendly and cost-effective in long-term operations.
Moreover, the compact skid system minimizes downtime, simplifies maintenance, and ensures continuous operation in demanding environments.
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) – Ozone Contact Skid
1. What is an Ozone Contact Skid?
An Ozone Contact Skid is a compact, skid-mounted water treatment system that injects and dissolves ozone into water. It is designed to disinfect, oxidize contaminants, and improve water clarity in aquaculture, RAS systems, and industrial applications.
2. How does an Ozone Contact Skid work?
The system draws ozone from a generator, injects it into the water via a venturi or diffuser, and passes it through a contact chamber. This ensures the ozone has enough contact time to kill pathogens, oxidize organic matter, and break down harmful substances before water returns to the main system.
3. Why use ozone in aquaculture?
Ozone is one of the most effective natural disinfectants. It removes bacteria, viruses, and parasites without leaving harmful residues. It also improves water clarity, reduces chemical usage, and helps maintain healthier aquatic environments.
4. Is an Ozone Contact Skid safe for fish?
Yes. When correctly sized and operated, the system ensures precise ozone dosing so that no harmful residual ozone reaches the fish tanks. Excess ozone is removed before the treated water returns to the system.
5. What are the advantages over traditional water treatment?
Compared to chlorine and other chemicals, ozone works faster, leaves no toxic byproducts, improves water transparency, and reduces long-term operating costs. It is also environmentally friendly.
6. Can the Ozone Contact Skid be customized?
Absolutely. We can custom-design the skid to match your flow rate, contact time, and system requirements for optimal performance.
7. Where is it used?
Ozone Contact Skids are widely used in fish farms, hatcheries, public aquariums, RAS systems, and industrial water treatment plants.
8. How much maintenance does it require?
Maintenance is minimal. The ozone generator, injectors, and contact chamber should be inspected regularly, and any wear-and-tear parts should be replaced as recommended.
9. Does ozone treatment remove odors and color from water?
Yes. Ozone effectively eliminates foul odors and reduces yellow or green discoloration caused by dissolved organics and algae.
10. How long does installation take?
Since the system is skid-mounted, installation is quick — typically just a few hours to a day, depending on site conditions.
